Homewood Heights Baseball Partners with Catholic Charities
11 members of the Homewood Heights Baseball Club led by Coach Brian Andreatta spent an evening serving supper at St. Anne in Hazel Crest on Monday, November 6, 2017. These fourth graders helped to serve food and sang happy birthday to ninety regular guests of Monday Night Supper. Two members of the team who participated in this service activity, Giancarlo Andreatta and Joey Ireland, are students in our religious education program and had this to say about their experience.
Giancarlo said “I thought it was fun to work, and nice to serve the people of the community. It made me feel good to help the people and I’d like to do it again” Joey said “It felt good helping people in need. It would definitely be something I’d like to do again. The part I loved was setting up the meals and giving the people their food and seeing them happy.”
Mr. Mike Cap, a catechist at St. Joseph who is in his 12th year volunteering at Monday Night Supper at St. Anne, remarked on how the presence of the team lifted the spirits of the guests and made the evening joyous and truly special. It is wonderful to see this new partnership between Catholic Charities and Homewood Heights Baseball Club directing our youth towards acts of mercy and compassion, and in doing so also helping them to be grateful for the privileges in their own lives.
