Tina always liked to cook, but her real hobby was reading cookbooks. She would sit for hours reading through recipes, especially Italian food.
Tina also enjoyed knitting for many years. So many friends and family cherish her potholders and dishcloths. And the blankets Tina made for each of her five great-grandchildren are the most treasured pieces she created.
Finally, she truly enjoys remembering her rich life through old photos, videos, and storytelling. Seeing the light in her eyes when she reminisces is magical for those lucky enough to be there. Her late husband, Guido, and sons, Joe and Mike, are frequent stars in these old stories. She also loves to share where she was and how she felt when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born. Family is always her most considerable interest!
Secrets to Longevity
Family and faith. These two words sum up what is most important to Tina and are the ultimate reasons for her long, happy, and fulfilling life. While these two pillars are essential to many people, they are the cornerstone of Tina’s daily world.
Also, independence continues to be a key to her daily life. She treasures being able to go about her routines as a spry 100-year-old.
Other Interesting Facts/Stories
As you can imagine, there are many incredible stories when someone gets to 100 years of life. However, here are a couple we know are very important to Tina because we have heard them the most.
Tina left school early to go to work. That was not unusual in those days. Because of this, Tina prizes education. She is incredibly proud that Joe and Mike both graduated from college. She always asks about the great-grandchildren going to school. And the family established a scholarship in her and Guido’s name at Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL, where Joe and Mike graduated. While life has taught her a ton, Tina still believes in the utmost importance of formal education.
And we will leave you with this often-told tale. Tina met Guido when she was pretty young but old enough to date. Tina’s mother was very protective. Her family included three half-brothers, but she was the only girl. Tina’s favorite story goes something like this. Her mom was so protective that she would go on dates with Tina and Guido. They would go to the movies, and Tina’s mom would join them. Tina marvels today at the patience Guido had to have to date her. However, she leaves out how amazing she must have been for Guido to want to be with her regardless of her mom’s overprotective nature. A true love story!
