Deacon George Maddock, Retired Captain US Naval Reserve, was recently honored by being named “The Hero of the Game” at the Iowa State University vs. University of Kansas football game.
George Maddock is the definition of a servant leader.
He graduated in 1963 with a degree in Business Organization Management from the University of Notre Dame. Upon graduation, he married his wife Nancy and immediately began serving in the US Navy as an ensign, first on an LST, a navy tank landing ship. He then attended Destroyer Officer School. In 1967, his orders were to go to Vietnam where he served as a harbor security officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He returned to the States where he continued to serve. George was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church in 1986 and has volunteered as the business manager for Saint Joseph Parish and in Pastoral Care in local retirement communities.
George and Nancy Maddock sent two of their four children, Mike and Ellen Maddock through Iowa State University and now have two grandchildren, Gunnar and Cody, who are also Cyclones.
George Maddock served in the United States Navy for 30 years rising to the level of Captain. We thank George Maddock for being a true servant leader.
