How to gratefully acknowledge the years of dedicated service to his congregations at a pastor’s retirement? On Sunday 27 June 2021 the people of the parish of St Joseph hosted an event to honor Fr. Robert Kyfes upon his retirement. “How do I keep from Singing?”was the recessional hymn selected for a final Liturgy of Thanksgiving commemorating Fr. Bob as the seventh pastor of the Parish of St Joseph. A crowd of more than 200 gathered to fête Fr. Bob as he celebrated his final Mass as pastor. Among this gathering were a number of former parishioners from his former assignments. Most in attendance at the Mass were treated to a special concert by the famous Irish singer, Gavin Coyle, who performed at the request of Fr. Bob. A reception that was described as “elegant but understated” followed at Sayers Hall for the enjoyment of all.
Gratitude is the feeling of appreciation shown by a recipient of kindness and generosity. The people of the parish of St Joseph, Homewood, IL, appreciate the gentleness that Fr. Bob brought to his last assignment, the one at which he chose to conclude his career. The people of the parish of St Joseph also gratefully acknowledge the generous contributions of such organizations as the Tews-Ryan Funeral Homes, the local Knights of Columbus Marian Council, the St Joseph Athletic Association and various individual parishioners whose donations help to defray the cost of the festivities.
