Mary Ellen and Tom Brabec hosted a get-together Aug. 14 at Grape & Grain to catch up with volunteers and supporters of Catholic Charities, a 102-year-old organization that helps people from all religious denominations.
Many know of Catholic Charities efforts through St. Joseph’s food drives, but there is much more that goes on to help those in need. Mary Ellen said all help is appreciated, whether you can give an hour a week to tutor a child or assist once a quarter with a special project. Maybe you join in conversation with dinner guests who gather at St. Anne’s Parish in Hazel Crest from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays. You could join an informational program on human trafficking from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Catholic Charities Regional Office in Blue Island.
Or mark your calendar for the Catholic Charities fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W. 115th St. in Merrionette Park. This party will benefit food pantries and emergency services for our neighbors most in need in the south and southwest regions.
For information on how you can be part of the Catholic Charities network, call the regional office at 708-430-0428.
