The first “production run” of blessing bags assembled ~ 100 bags. Included in each sack is an assortment of personal items for the clients of our PADS ministry. Catholic Charities supplied all the fixings. These works of mercy serve the homeless in our south suburban region. The remainder of these filled bags was delivered to the south suburban Charities office. This is a collaborative effort on the part of our parish. Catechist Janice Barry crocheted prayer cloths with the shape of a cross. Some of our Confirmation class and some parents convened after the family Mass on 3 March 2024 to assemble them. Two weeks later all of these bags were distributed at three Catholic Charities events. These were held on the southwest side of the city and the most recent at the former St Andrew parish in Calumet City. As you can see, the recipients are happy and grateful. By luck and the grace of God, Lucy Czarnecki, a very creative member of our Piecemakers Ministry happened to finish a batch of ~ 45 prayer cloths in both the crochet and quilted designs. This comes as an opportune moment as the local director of Charities, Chris Torres, requested another 50 prayer cloths for delivery to the Zacchaeus ministry at the Cook County Jail on Thursday 21 March. Short notice indeed! Who would have thought we would have needed more so soon? The Piecemakers Ministry aims to help with these prayer cloths going forward. They can work at their leisure to accumulate an inventory of these cloths that will be mated with a prayer for those less fortunate. Many blessings and thanks to all. We can’t do it without YOU!
